Russia is a huge country with all possible climatic zones, fields, rivers and, of course, mountains. For the International Climbing Day, which is celebrated in August, one of the most popular Russian travel services conducted a thematic survey among users of social networks. The goal was to identify which peaks of Russia are most popular for mountain tourism, because there is a great choice of resorts to spend mountain holidays in Russia.
The list of leaders included nine places: the Siberian Sayans, Mount Narodnaya in the Urals and the volcanoes of Kamchatka.
Kamchatka is a region at the eastern part of Russia that is known for its stunning nature, geysers and volcanoes. The resorts of the region are just developing, since for a long time these picturesque places were hard to reach for ordinary tourists.
Next up is Belukha Mountain in Altai, which gained 12.5 percent of the vote. Many Semyon site visitors also voted for Mount Semenov-Bashi in Dombay and the Khibiny massif on Kola.
Mountain Fisht in the Krasnodar Krai, which became famous after the Winter Olympic Games 2014 held in Sochi, is also popular.
And the first place rightfully took Elbrus – the highest peak of Russia and Europe, located on the border of the Kabardino-Balkarian and Karachay-Cherkess Republics. Picturesque nature, developed and safe resorts, as well as transport accessibility, attract many tourists from Europe and other countries.
